Sonata in Cm, K. 475 | Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791) |
I. Molto Allegro
II. Adagio
III. Allegro Assai |
Nguyen Tri Thong Truong, Piano |
This Sonata is one of two Sonatas that Mozart composed in a minor key, the other being the A minor Sonata K. 310.
The piece features both dramatic and fiery passages with moments of beauty and bliss, and bears similarities to Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata in Cm (note the almost identical theme between the 2nd episode of Mozart's Adagio with the opening theme of Beethoven's Adagio Cantabile).

Rossini’s Opera Buffa, ‘The Barber of Seville’ (1816) borrows from the text of Pierre Beaumarchais’ comedy play ‘The Barber of Seville’ (1775), and follows the characters’ whimsical interactions and use of disguise. The transcription for piano six hands to the overture of this opera was arranged by Henri Hausser in 1879. The opening chords present a majestic and dramatic opening, succeeded by an animated Allegro section, which grows in intensity as it reaches the end of the overture. |
