Piano sonata No.9 in C Op.103Sergei Prokofiev (1891 - 1953)
        II
Katniss Li, Piano
very different from the three preceding ones, it seems merely much 'simpler' than the other ones. Prokofiev himself did not intend for this composition to create an effect.

Piano sonata Op.1Alban Berg (1885 - 1935)

Katniss Li, Piano
This sonata was originally handed in by Berg to Schoenberg as an assignment of composition. It only has one movement because Schoenberg said it is complete as it is. As a figure associated with the Second Viennese School, comprised with Arnold Schoenberg and his pupils Alban Berg and Anton Webern, Berg was regarded the most lyrical and romantic one.

Fantasie in C Op.17Robert Schumann (1810 - 1856)
        All
Zhihan Jiang, Piano
Initially subtitled ruined, triumphant arch and constellation, Schumann begins this work with the descending motif of Clara, expressing his distress towards her departure. Written for a fundraising event towards building a Beethoven monument, this work incorporates the spirit of late Beethoven and concludes in a seemingly never ending song-like slow movement in binary form.
