Brahms' "Immer leiser wird mein Schlummer" is a sombre setting of a woman's last plea. With poetry by Hermann Lingg, the second piece of Brahm's song cycle "Fünf Lieder" tells the story of a dying woman who has been abandoned in her last moments. Shifting between dream-like nostalgia and dark hopelessness, Brahms captures a deeply melancholic vignette through his musical setting.
