Le Nozze di Figaro (translated: The Marriage of Figaro) was an opera buffa, or comic opera, written with a libretto by Mozart's longtime collaborator Lorenzo da Ponte. Inspired by a 1784 stage play by Pierre Beaumarchais, this opera tells the story of the servants Figaro and Susanna, who foil a plot by their employer Count Almaviva to seduce Susanna on her wedding night. In this scene, Susanna and the Countess have switched places. Susanna, dressed as the Countess, and knowing that her fiancé Figaro is jealously spying on her, teases him by singing to her beloved, who he believes is the Count. | | |
