Toccata in E Minor BWV914J.S.Bach (1685 - 1750)

Kathy Wang, piano
Bach's seven toccatas belong to his earlier works, this one is clearly structured in four parts that flow more or less seamlessly into one another, as was usual in seventeenth-century keyboard music.

Piano Sonata Op.109 in E majorLudwig Van Beethoven (1770 - 1827)
        I. Vivace, ma non troppo - Adagio espressivo - Tempo I. II. Prestissimo.
Kathy Wang, piano
Beethoven composed Op. 109 in 1820 and it is the third of the five piano sonatas grouped under his late period style. It is characterised by a fresh and free approach to the traditional Sonata form. The opening movement has a distinctly improvisatory quality, immediately followed by a dramatic Prestissimo movement.

Prelude in G minor Op 23. No. 5 Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873 - 1943)

Bernard Cresdee, Piano
Prelude in G minor, Op. 23, No. 5, was included in his Opus 23 set of ten preludes, however was composed two years earlier than the other 9 preludes in Opus 23. Rachmaninoff himself premiered the piece in Moscow on February 10, 1903, along with Preludes No. 1 and 2 from Op. 23. The prelude is in a quick, \\\'alla marcia\\\' style with a swooning lyrical middle section.

Gulliver Poole, Piano
A piano etude written around creating the illusion of three hands, arpeggios on top, a singing melodic line in the middle, and a bass part emulating pizzicato.
