Clarinet Concerto No. 1 in F Minor Op. 73, Movement 1 | Weber (1786 - 1826) |

Andrea Katz, piano |
This piece was composed for Heinrich Barmann who was a German clarinet virtuoso of the Romantic Era. This first movement was very innovative for its time. I believe that it is rife with emotions of anger, vengeance and mourning. This piece is canonic in the classical clarinet repertoire and showcases much of the instruments techniques. |

Appassionata, Op57. | Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827) |
1st Movement |
Zhihan Jiang, piano |
Written during his middle period and dedicated to Count Frank von Brunswick, Beethoven's Appassionata, represents much of the inner struggle and turmoil experienced as he comes to grip with his eventual deafness. Indeed, one of his greatest and technically challenging piano sonatas, the first movement begins with ominous and foreboding characteristics, and quickly proceeds to startling dynamics and tonal changes which reflect a rollercoaster of emotions. |
